Isaac Dunbar is a “Man Overboard” in His Latest Single

The luscious and Queen-inspired Isaac Dunbar rises once more with his single, “Man Overboard,” a sexy nautical piece that uncovers the excitement and fear of love- and hopefully, means a new album in the works.

If you’re new to listening to the iconic pop diva that is Isaac Dunbar, his latest single “Man Overboard” is the perfect introduction. It fits ever so satisfyingly into his discography, with lust in his lyrics and a sound so danceable you can’t help but move to it even if you’re sitting down. 

Released on August 21, Dunbar is keeping summer alive as fall festivities start peeking around the corner. If you’re like me and you’re grasping onto the dwindling beach days and summertime love for dear life, listen to“Man Overboard” and all those worries will wash away, no pun intended.

With Dunbar’s music in general, it’s unpredictable with what gems you’ll find in each song. Yes, he is pop in every way, but each work has a personal touch that separates one from the next. You may come across some autotune found in “makeup drawer” or even be given a gorgeous ballad in “the world & all her pearls” (which I listened to while taking a flight at night recently and I had never felt more like I was in a movie in my life). He lets every song breathe and have their own stage to shine on. 

“Man Overboard” is no exception to this, and within the first 10 seconds of this 2:22 minute song I felt like I was thrown into a Tommy Hilfiger bikini with Sperry shoes lounging on the deck of a yacht with champagne in hand. And this isn’t just because there are playful lyrics that say “rock the boat” or “I’m seasick.” It comes from the nautical chimes and bouncing rhythm that are properly found within the Yacht Rock station on Sirius XM.

It’s something quite different compared to his other songs, but it still holds the Dunbar speciality of being an anthem of desire and expert charisma.

As you listen through, you also start to feel this sense of wealth, like there’s a spell Dunbar casts onto listeners that makes you think, “wow, I really am that girl.” There is so much confidence and diva pride he carries that he properly sprinkles some onto us so we know our worth as well. I’ve always loved that about Dunbar, being a fan since 2020, because he exudes so much assurance in himself by how he sings and in his eccentric lyricism. You can tell how these songs are true to him and most likely manifest from real life experiences. 

Within the lyrics, Dunbar takes us on a tour of love in all its power, speaking on how falling in love is something both exciting and truthfully scary, especially if one hasn’t fallen in a long time. He says, “Baby, why you rock the boat for no reason? / There’s a million pretty boys I could reel in / Now you're pulling on my line and I feel it / I wanna leap in.” He had a system in place, nothing was disturbed in his realm, and now here comes this person who goes and changes it all. Dunbar is wary, but he’s all in- or as he says, “I’ll be your man overboard.”

With the singles “Late to the Party” in 2025, “Princess” and “Man Overboard” in 2026, I can only hope that this will lead to a full album in the future.
