Westside Cowboy’s ‘It Goes On’ is Your New Favorite “Britainicana” Album

A sound so unique it needed a new genre.

This four piece English rock band Westside Cowboy has had an incredible few years, and their debut LP is just the cherry on top. In 2025, Jimmy Bradbury, Reuben Haycocks, Aoife Anson O'Connell and Paddy Murphy won Glastonbury’s Emerging Talent Competition and performed on the Woodsies stage ahead of their first EP release. Since then, the band has seen major success, amassing over 670,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and recently opening up for Geese on their European leg.

On August 21, Westside Cowboy released It Goes On with Island Records. It is a blend of their signature sound fans have come to love, British folk paired with punk and alt-indie influences. In an interview with Dazed, Paddy Murphy explains the band’s genre as “Britainicana. Murphy explains that they were influenced by so much American culture while growing up in the UK that it blended together with each members’ unique tastes to create Westside Cowboy.

This mix of inspiration is certainly evident as the album opens with “Kick Stones (The Boys).” The thrumming guitar paired with the punchy lyrics of “You know you got a face like a bullet when you talk like that” sets the nostalgic yet lively tone for the entire album. It’s confident in a way many debuts aren’t and that is exactly what makes it special. 

Each track on It Goes On bleeds into each other perfectly. We really recommend listening in album order, especially on your first time through. “Dobro” is reminiscent of tracks from Talking Heads and Catfish in the Bottlemen and provides a perfect song to listen to while driving down the highway. “Pin Up Boys” is an early favorite with its punchy lyrics and retro punk production. 

O’Connell’s voice in ‘Coyote’ is certainly a standout on the album. The lyrics are hauntingly beautiful and so easily depict an image in our heads:

“This is the most beautiful place on planet Earth / And I’m killing it with every step / Tie me up, glue my feet ? Sew my mouth, pull my teeth / I feel as evil as it gets.”

The LP finishes off with “You Could Have Died There On The Dancefloor,” a piece about longing and feeling like you’re looking in from the outside. It is the perfect endcap to a great debut album.

It’s clear by this release Westside Cowboy is marketing themselves as one of the most exciting up and coming indie bands right now. It Goes On is available now.
