Fall in Love with Catie Turner’s Latest Single, “Easy”

Written by Kaiana Lee

Catie Turner has come a long way from that 17-year-old girl on “American Idol.”  The offbeat personality we all fell in love with remains, but her musical abilities have soared far beyond her talent show appearance. She has grown to become such an incredible artist, and each track she releases solidifies her as one of the greats. Turner has always had a knack for songwriting. Her debut EP, “The Sad Vegan,” opened the door for her success and each track she has released since then has been astonishing. Her songwriting invites you in, and each track is another opportunity for her fans to glimpse into her psyche. She is in her element when writing songs that speak to people. Relatability is her strong suit, and her new song “Easy” is no different.

“Easy” is a track that you can instantly fall in love with. It begins with subtle guitar plucking and piano pings that set the tone. Turner's vocals then flood in and fill the soundscape with a comforting atmosphere. As the song progresses, her vocals become more heartfelt, sucking you into a space of self-analysis. A longing for life to be easier is expressed in the lyrics. The anxieties that come with being human are exhausting at best. She's worried about how she is perceived and the stress that brings. Turner wants to be easy in a multitude of ways; easy-going, easily liked, and “easy on the eyes,” as she puts it. The introspective track speaks to her deepest feelings but is something everyone has struggled with before. Inadequacy and needing to be needed are common insecurities, and Turner putting these feelings into words so brilliantly is a testament to her ability.

“I often times feel too much, and even more so, I fear being ‘too much;’ I want to be easy,” Turner said, “The one who only elicits pleasant feelings. Unfortunately, there is no rule book that can teach you how to be easy 100% of the time; it doesn’t exist. I hope you like it, and cue the laugh track, find it EASY to listen to.”

“Easy” is the second track released from her upcoming project “Comedy & Tragedy,” an ambitious two-part feat that acknowledges both comedy and tragedy as a need to find the truth. This project coincides with an online series, “Comedy & Tragedy: The Musical: The Series,” a Glee-esque faux reality show that perfectly encapsulates the vibes of the track as well as Turner's quirky personality.
