Catch Up with Boy Willows

Interview by Lindsey Dadourian

If you enjoy listening to dreamy, low-fi bops, then I know your new favorite artist! Boy Willows has been active in the music scene since late 2016, releasing some singles and two EPs! Check out our interview with him right here!

Q: Your sound is very reminiscent of Sufjan Stevens, who/what are your biggest inspirations for your music and aesthetic?

A: The Sufjan comparison made me smile - thanks for that! :) His vocal style is actually a massive inspiration in how honest and full it is. Other big influences are The Gorillaz, Jose Gonzalez, Toro y Moi, Courtney Barnett, Reggie Watts and Simon and Garfunkel. It took me a shameful amount of time to put that list together, I completely blacked out.

Q: With the release of your EP, "oof?", how has the response been?

A: When “oof” came out I was really pleased with the reception, always room for improvement tho, ya feel me? There were some tracks that ended up popping off a little bit higher than I expected and some that slid under the radar, so overall I’d say the response was a strong "meh" to a light "hell yeah"!

Q: Are you planning on releasing new music anytime soon?

A: I AM INDEED! No specific date yet but it's a whole ass album. My first actually, 9 tracks! Singles will be coming really soon though!

Q: What is your biggest goal for the future as a musician?

A: My biggest goal as a musician: wear a crop top and start a mosh pit. I don't think this is the pinnacle of what I want to achieve but it's up there. Honestly with my musical idols, I trust their taste so much that they can do anything and I'm down for the ride. That's what I want.

Q: Are you planning on touring in the near future? (When life can resume normally!)

A: After ‘rona goes along her merry way, if she does, then I am absolutely gonna pull out some shows. Obviously nothing is on the books yet, but I will shout the dates from a tall hill when they come in.

Q: If you could pick one artist or band to collaborate with, who would you choose?

A: Hands down Toro y Moi, the dude is my shining star and I feel like we would make some really groovy, crispity crunchity stuff.

I highly suggest you check out Boy Willows’ music, especially his newest EP, “oof”, while we patiently wait for his debut album! We are so stoked for future music from him, and you should be too!
